Be an Advocate!
Ok, time to be an advocate again! Sign this and then pass it on!
Here's the text from the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance's form letter --
Many women have mood swings after birth. While they may have looked forward to the birth of their child, they can be happy one minute and extremely sad the next. Almost 80 percent of women who have recently given birth experience symptoms of postpartum blues. Postpartum depression, which is more serious can often lead to suicide. Legislation has been introduced in the both the House and the Senate that will educate the public about postpartum depression. This legislation will ensure that new mothers and their families are educated about postpartum depression, screened for symptoms, and provided with essential services. Won't you join me in writing a letter to your legislators about this important legislation? It is quick and easy and will only take a few minutes of your time. Thank you for your consideration.

Must-See TV
Ok, you have to click on this link, and watch ESPECIALLY the Mr. Rogers clip of nursing on public television.
http://www.phdinparenting.com/2009/02/07/breastfeeding-on-childrens-television/
I thought it was interesting that they only showed ONE mom bottle-feeding. Nowadays, it would probably be the reverse. What did you think of the videos clips?

Breastfeeding and Biopsies
Ok, so we all know that breastfeeding reduces the chances of breast cancer. I don't have exact numbers on hand, but basically the longer you breastfeed, the more you reduce your chances of getting breast cancer. And since there is breast cancer on BOTH sides of my family (YIKES!) I definitely plan on letting Claire self-wean...be that at 3 or 4...after that we'll have to see...anyway...we'll see where we are at at that point! Ok, so here is some more breast cancer related info for you breastfeeding mommas: http://crunchydomesticgoddess.com/2009/02/03/breastfeeding-scheduled-for-a-biopsy-read-this-and-pass-it-on/

Breastfeeding Challenge 2008
Interested in supporting breastfeeding women?
What? Join us for the Breastfeeding Challenge 2008!
When? The Challenge takes place on Saturday, October 11th, 2008, with "latch on" occurring at 11am. (arrive at 10:30 to get settled in/sign media release)
Where? Starbucks at 96th and Allisonville.
Why? Last year, there were 230 sites with over 5,383 babies. It's easy; it's FREE and it makes a point -- Breastfeeding and donor milk banking is important! We are calling all women in WORLD to support this effort! Register a site or just pass the message onto a friend who might be interested. Go to www.babyfriendly.ca for more information. Be counted in! Remember--WHO (the World Health Organization) recommends breastfeeding until a minimum of age 2, or as long as is mutually desirable.
***The event is a non-profit, health promotion/event to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding in the community and in the global media. It is an excellent chance for mothers to meet other mothers and local professionals.
If you're not a breastfeeding mom, pass this info onto someone who may be interested. If you're not in the Indy area, just go to the site to check for a location in your area or register one.
