Riley Fest

Today we went to the Riley Fest. http://www.rileyfestival.com/ I didn't bring the camera with, so here are some other pictures of Claire above. Soon it will be too cold for her summer stuff, but today managed to warm up nicely in the sun! My brother Richie came down last night so Claire and I went with him. We tried a deep fried Snickers. It was glorious. I'm sure it was about 1,000 calories, but it was so worth it. It was sort of like a warm donut with chocolate frosting and pudding (nougat) in the center. MMM. We saw the Children's Parade of Flowers at 1. It was exactly that. Kids carrying flowers. Highly overrated. They just walk down the main street and lay them at the feet of the statue of James Whitcomb Riley. We came home. I decided to take a nap with Claire. We slept from 2-5:15 when Josh came home. Oops. My food-coma nap, was also, very glorious. I don't know what I'll do if we have another kid. I need my occasional nap.

Palin Bingo

Haha. This is hilarious: http://www.palinbingo.com/ Click on the cards at the bottom of the page.

Bragging, But Not Really. Really not really.

I would like to brag: Claire took a 3 hour nap yesterday.

But I'm not really bragging...because...she peed through her diaper. Not sure why. I downsized about a month ago from size 5s back to size 4s since she has lost weight and is getting longer and thinning out. She has never peed through a nap diaper before. Ever. Not in three hours. And I had JUST changed her before nursing her to sleep, as always. I'm thinking it was maybe because I had her in a Huggies. I swear the Pampers work better. What is your current favorite brand of diaper? I tried using the cloth ones again, until she peed through that while awake in 2 hours. If cloth diapers require changing hourly, there's no way I'm going to do them! I use the Huggies size 5 overnights. I was thinking of going back down to size 4, but I think I'll stick with the size 5 for the extra absorbency. What do you think I should do?

Ok, so here's the really REALLY not really bragging part. I had fresh sheets and blankets on the bed. (Go ahead and laugh. I would laugh if it happened to you! :) Hehe.) I swear this happens every time I wash them when I don't wash them because they just haven't been washed in awhile (did you follow that?). So I think I'm back to washing them only upon leakages. I was just going to spot wash it, but upon peeling it back, it went through the mattress pad, too. FUN. FUN!

Why Toddler Carseats need to REARFACE!

Here is a great quick read about good car seats: http://blog.thenatureschild.com/2008/10/booster-seat-warning.html I'll have to investigate when Claire is older when we move her to a booster. Right now she is still rear-facing and can be to 40 lbs in this seat. So we have awhile to go!

Also watch these YouTube clips:

And here's the 2nd one YOU NEED TO SEE IT!

Our Little Devil

Claire loves to brush her hair. She has also figured out how to stand on her tiptoes and sneak my brush off of the bathroom counter. This is bad. That means she can reach anything that is close to the edges. She is too tall!

Claire loves to throw things. I wonder when this stage will stop being fun. She usually starts throwing the food on the ground before I have even finished putting it in front of her. I am not sure how much of it she eats.

Claire also loves to put things on her head, like buckets, containers, hats, washcloths, or just random clothes she can get her hands on. So I saw this headband and thought it would be funny for Halloween! It's really soft, and she likes to take it off and on.

Crop Circle.

Apparently, the aliens have landed!!! In our backyard. Yikes. What should we do?

Look, our tree is changing colors! :( Boo. I want summer to stay. I'm not giving up on sandals, yet!

Nell and Bill's Wedding

Nell and Bill Mick's wedding was at Lake of the Four Seasons Country Club in Crown Point, Indiana. Here is her sister, Molly, coming down the aisle. The scene was beautiful, as it overlooked Lake Holiday.

Here comes Nell with her Dad. You can see my mom and Claire in the right corner.

Nell's dress was absolutely beautiful, with red accents and a red train in the back.

She had an Asian them, as you can see from the cake. The food was egg rolls, orange chicken, etc, sticking with the theme. It was super tasty!

Claire had a ball walking around the reception! It's hard to get face shots of her walking. You really have to sit/lay on the ground for them to turn out more than just the top of her head!

Nell and I had many classes together in Middle and High School, like Mrs. Sommer's History Class. I don't remember much about that class, except passing notes and drawing comic strips back and forth with Nell of various teachers. We also both played the clarinet in band. She was on the Swim/Dive team. I swam; she was a diver. The other one I remember taking together was Creative Writing, as that was probably one of my favorite HS classes, (along with Quest, German, Art, Life guarding, Poetry, Theory of Knowledge, etc...).

We also had several sleep overs! The most memorable one was when I slept at her house with a few other girls. We were watching Misery, which isn't that scary, but very suspenseful. It was dark out, of course. Her dad went around the house to the sliding glass doors outside the living room where we were in the sleeping bags and he knocked on the door. This of course scared the living crap out of all of us. I can see Josh doing this to Claire in the future, getting a huge kick of of making a bunch of girls scream.

A Visit to Coulter's Farm

Farmer Richard. Claire is hanging out. Her outfit totally doesn't match. Whoops. It "seemed" like a good idea in the dark bedroom dressing her while I was still half asleep.

My dad, Will; Me wearing Claire, Richard, and my mom, Arlene.

Claire looks ticked off in this picture. "Why are you sitting me between these things?"

Here she is doing her dog impression. Too funny.

Claire as a witch. Notice the bear was trying to get in on it too!

I attempted to look "scary." Instead, it looks like someone is pulling me down to attack me and looks...well scary.

Claire playing on the wooden play train:

I don't know how we managed to fit so much into one weekend, but we did! We went to get some pumpkins at a farm outside of Valpo, and decided to stop in at the Scarecrow fest for lunch. http://www.scarecrowfest.org/ Maybe if we go up next year, Claire can go on a real pony ride! Here was one of the booths going on:

Homecoming Pictures

Claire enjoyed all the sights and sounds that come with a parade. Here we are with my brother, her Uncle Rich.

Valpo's mascot is the Valpo Vikings. All the clubs make floats and walk or ride in the parade.

I can't go anywhere in Valpo without running into somebody I know. This is a classmate, Rebecca, who is now teaching Spanish.

And the German club was walking as well, so I joined the parade a moment to say hi to Frau Bowman, who was one of my HS German teachers, for German 3 and 4. She was excited to meet Claire. She is tiny. I look really tall compared to her. Then look at the photo below.

Ahh. That's better. I'm not so tall and freakishly-giant when put in my own family. Actually, I'm the shrimp! ;) Well I guess Claire is, but look how long she is in her Baby Bjorn carrier! Here I am with my mom and brother, Richie.

VHS Homecoming

So this past Friday, we headed up to Valpo for a wedding on Saturday. We went to the VHS homecoming parade Friday afternoon. It was fun to see the band and all the clubs participate.

Why CIO is sooo wrong...

I have stumbled amongst some other great blogs. This is one of them: http://phdinparenting.wordpress.com/2008/07/05/no-cry-it-out/ Here she talks about why CIO is wrong. (Cry it out)

Claire CAN WALK!

Wow. From newborn this:

(Listen toward the end; you can hear me breathing hard...still...)

To a walking talking this:

And trying to do all sorts of big girl things:

We drove home from Valpo (AGAIN!) today after another wedding. Here is Claire between sleep cycles. It's too funny:
